2018 Taranaki Forward Of The Year Reuben O’Neill was selected in the New Zealand Schools side in 2012 and made his provincial debut in 2015.
In 2018 the prop caught the eye of All Blacks selectors with his strength and power in the front row and was selected in the wider squad for the Japan leg of the November series without having even made his Super Rugby debut.
O'Neill played 10 games for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2020 and a further 5 in 2021. After returning from injury in 2021, O'Neill came off the bench against the Reds to score a try.
In 2022 O’Neill was unavailable due to injury and returned to play with the Crusaders for the 2023 season.
