Gallagher Chiefs to recreate history with Jordan Luck Band at season opener

The Exponents, fronted by Jordan Luck, performed at the first-ever Super Rugby match in Hamilton in 1996. The Chiefs played against the Crusaders and took the win by one point at Rugby Park in Hamilton. Renamed Waikato Stadium in 2002 the ground will also revert to ‘Rugby Park’ for the round three match-up.

The return of Jordan Luck and Rugby Park pays tribute to the club’s origins and recognises the loyal fans that have been part of the Chiefs journey since 1996. Bringing this history to life, long-time partner APL –  through its leading brand First Windows & Doors (FWD), has re-signed their partnership with the Gallagher Chiefs for a further three years. This continues a long-standing relationship built on shared community values and a commitment to elevating fan experience.

As part of the renewed agreement, FWD will present the new FWD Half-Time Window, delivering high-energy entertainment at every Gallagher Chiefs home match throughout the 2025–2028 seasons. Designed with rugby fans at the centre, the platform celebrates the loyal fans who bring unmatched passion to FMG Stadium Waikato.

Stephanie Millward, Marketing Communications Manager for First Windows and Doors says “The Chiefs are deeply connected to their community, and that’s something we strongly align with at First Windows and Doors. This long-standing partnership gives us the opportunity to give back by supporting memorable experiences that fans and families can enjoy together”.

Chiefs Rugby Club CEO Simon Graafhuis is excited about the bringing back Rugby Park’s first Super Game. “This coming season we will be celebrating 30 years of Chiefs history and there’s no better way to that than by reminiscing back to 1996 and our very first home-game entertainment with The Exponents.” Graafhuis continues “With the support of First Windows and Doors, welcoming Jordan Luck back for the season opener should be a memorable moment for our fans and whānau”.

“Even renaming the ground back to Rugby Park for the game brings back very fond memories.” – Simon Graafhuis, Chiefs Rugby Club CEO

The Jordan Luck Band’s appearance promises a high-energy start to the season, featuring some of New Zealand’s music’s most loved songs such as Who Loves Who the Most, Victoria and the unofficial Kiwi anthem Why Does Love Do To Me.
