The University of Waikato Chiefs Taua travelling squad has been confirmed ahead of next week’s trip to Japan, where the side will take on Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath at the Chichibunomiya Minato Rugby Festival 2026.
The 26-player squad brings together Gallagher Chiefs experience and emerging talent from across the Chiefs pathway, with the fixture providing an opportunity for the group to test themselves against one of Japan’s leading clubs.
The side will travel to Tokyo next week ahead of the match at Prince Chichibu Rugby Stadium on Saturday 14 November.
As previously announced, the tour will be led by Chiefs Rugby Head of Pathways and Recruitment Mike Rogers, with support from Gallagher Chiefs assistant coach David Hill, Bay of Plenty Steamers assistant coach Luther Hirini and Gallagher Chiefs and All Black Luke Jacobson travelling in a mentoring and coaching role.
Chiefs whānau back home will be able to follow the tour across Chiefs Rugby channels, with the match also set to be livestreamed. Further livestream details will be shared ahead of kick-off.
Fans wanting to get even closer to the action can sign up for a 2027 Away Membership, which includes access to Chiefs Pass and exclusive content from inside the Japan tour over the coming weeks.
