Kelly Brazier Appointed Assistant Coach for Chiefs Manawa

A proven performer on the international stage and a two-time Rugby World Cup Sevens champion, Brazier brings with her an exceptional depth of experience, game understanding, and leadership. Across a distinguished playing career with the Black Ferns Sevens and in 15s, she has built a reputation not only as a phenomenal athlete, but as a composed, influential presence within high-performance environments.

Head Coach Dwayne Sweeney said Brazier’s appointment reflects both her rugby pedigree and the respect she has earned throughout the game.

“We’re super excited to have Kelly on board,” said Sweeney. “She’s been a phenomenal player and someone who has earned enormous respect through her time in the game. Her leadership experience, her understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level, and the standards she sets will be hugely valuable for our group.”

Announcing her retirement from playing rugby, Brazier’s transition into coaching marks the next chapter in a career defined by excellence, resilience, and professionalism. Her ability to read the game, connect with players, and lead through action makes her a natural fit within the Chiefs Manawa environment.

The addition of Brazier strengthens an already committed coaching team of Dwayne Sweeney and Carla Hohepa and reinforces Chiefs Manawa’s focus on developing strong leaders, fostering high standards, and building a culture that empowers players to perform at their best.

Fans will get to see the Chiefs Manawa on the field later this year an a new look Super Rugby Aupiki competition. Chiefs Rugby season members get access to all Gallagher Chiefs and Chiefs Manawa home games.
