Kyren Taumoefolau to join Gallagher Chiefs in 2026

The Gallagher Chiefs have today announced the signing of one of Super Rugby Pacific’s brightest rising stars, Kyren Taumoefolau, on a two-year contract starting in 2026.

At just 22 years old, Taumoefolau has already established himself as one of the most exciting young players in Super Rugby Pacific. Since making his debut with Moana Pasifika in 2024, he has made 21 appearances and crossed the try line 12 times. Known for his explosive pace, quick footwork and ability to get under the ball, Taumoefolau has become a constant threat on the wing and a standout performer across two seasons.

His decision to join the Gallagher Chiefs marks the next step in a fast-rising career shaped by talent, determination, and strong values.

“I’ve loved my journey so far and I’m really proud of what I’ve been able to achieve with Moana Pasifika. When it came time to make a decision about what’s next, I took a lot of time to think about what was right for me and my whānau. Joining the Gallagher Chiefs felt like the best option to keep growing and developing as a player. I’m excited for the next challenge and grateful for the opportunity to be part of a team and culture that I really believe in.”

Gallagher Chiefs Head Coach Jono Gibbes said the team is excited to welcome Kyren to the Chiefs Whānau and support him in reaching his full potential.

“We know that he had plenty of options both in New Zealand and abroad, so to get the opportunity to continue to grow and develop his game in the next phase of his career is very exciting for us. It’s a responsibility that we take very seriously.”

“Kyren is a player with immense potential, and he embodies many of the values we stand for. We know he’ll thrive in the Chiefs Rugby environment, both on and off the field.”

Chiefs Rugby CEO Simon Graafhuis said Kyren brings a fresh and exciting energy that fans will love.

“He’s a player that rugby fans have enjoyed and I’m sure will love watching in Chiefs colours. We’re looking forward to his raw skill, speed and enthusiasm that he’ll bring to our environment.”

Kyren Taumoefolau will join the Gallagher Chiefs for pre-season in 2026.
