Vibes & Versatility: Naitoa Ah Kuoi Stays With Gallagher Chiefs for Another Year

The Gallagher Chiefs have secured one of their most charismatic and versatile players, with Naitoa Ah Kuoi announcing on social media that he has extended his contract for another year.

The 24-year-old lock, who made his debut for the Chiefs in 2020, has become a fan favourite across the country for his powerful on-field performances and infectious energy off it. Known for his fearless playing style and genuine connection with supporters, Ah Kuoi’s recommitment is a major win for the club.

Gallagher Chiefs Head Coach Clayton McMillan says Ah Kuoi embodies what it means to be a Chief on and off the field.

“Naitoa is a fearless and dynamic player, who consistently brings an energy that lifts everyone around him. Off the field, he’s great at connecting with fans, building team culture, and proudly representing his heritage and community.”

Originally from Wellington but now a proud Bay of Plenty representative, Ah Kuoi’s growth over the past five seasons has seen him become a key contributor to the Gallagher Chiefs’ forward pack. His ability to cover multiple positions, paired with a strong work ethic and leadership potential, continues to make him a crucial asset.

Off the field Ah Kuoi is known for often being the last man signing autographs or taking pictures with fans, making his way around stadiums after every game. He says the fans are a bit part of his decision to stay with the Chiefs.

“It means a lot to keep playing for this team, and the fans make it even better. There’s a massive Chiefs backing in this region and I love the support that brings. I’ve heard from people all over the world and that makes it easy to stick around.”

Ah Kuoi’s commitment adds to a strong core of players who will stay with the club ahead of the 2026 season, as the Gallagher Chiefs continue to build a squad capable of delivering success on and off the field.
