The Gallagher Chiefs have signed Taha Kemara on a one-year contract for the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season, bringing the 23-year-old back to his home region.
The Te Awamutu born, Hamilton Boys High representative has been playing for Waikato in the Bunnings NPC loyally since 2022. Kemara has been a key playmaker for the Crusaders but feels now is the right time to return to the Waikato to be nearer to family.
“It’s something that is really special to me” Kemara reflects. “When I was year 7 I used to come and kick a ball here by myself and picture playing at a packed out Waikato Stadium for the Chiefs. It’s about making that kid proud, making his dream come true.”

Kemara has been in the Chiefs environment previously playing for their U20’s and being awarded the U20’s player of the year award in 2022.
As a fellow Te Awamutu local, Gallagher Chiefs Head Coach Jono Gibbes has recognised the strength Kemara will bring to the team.

Kemara who has also represented NZ with the NZU20’s and Māori All Blacks will join the Gallagher Chiefs when the assemble for pre-season later this year.
